Businesses and entrepreneurs in the Karoo will cash in on unprecedented opportunities presented by the International Mohair Summit and Festival in November this year, but need to register as suppliers to the landmark event.
Organiser Andrew Binning said the Mohair Summit and Festival, from November 3-9 represented one of the largest trade and public events yet hosted in the towns of Jansenville and Graaff Reinet.
Event hosts Ikwezi Local Municipality and Camdeboo Local Municipality will host Community briefings in January to share opportunities for local business and entrepreneurs and provide an opportunity for them to register as potential suppliers.
Binning said The International Mohair Summit, supported by the Eastern Cape Province’s Department of Agriculture would draw up to 2000 strictly trade farmers, processors, manufacturers, retailers, fashion designers, buyers and sellers of Mohair and Wool from across the globe and the Festival aimed to attract 20 000 festival goers with unique Karoo styled attractions and hospitality.
Services from transport companies and drivers to caterers, accommodation, crafters and stall holders among others for both aspects of the event were required.
Ikwezi Local Municipality Municipal Manager Thandekile Mnyimba said Ikwezi as hosts and the partnering Camdeboo Local Municipality wanted to ensure that the Summit and Festival benefited the local economy.
“These Initiatives around our beloved Mohair and wool Industry were created with the main objective of uplifting the economy of the region and we are confident that the Summit and Festival will not only boost the Mohair and Wool industry but provide significant opportunities for local residents in a way that will contribute to the quality of life for our people’’ Mnyimba said.
The Supplier briefings will take place at Graaff Reinet Town Hall on 20 January 2009 from 10am-12noon and in the Jansenville Town Hall on 21 January from 10am -12noon.
